Answer to Mathematics Knowledge Question on Y-Intercept

Mathematics Knowledge

Yesterday I presented a question on y-intercept.  Do you know the y-intercept of the line y = x?

Angles and slope is one of the 15 subtopics that I review for the Mathematics Knowledge as an ASVAB tutor.  The standard slope-intercept form of a line is y = mx + b.  M is the slope or steepness of the line.  M is the value that comes before x.  B is the y-intercept, the point where the line crosses the y-axis.

In the line y = x, there is no number before x, so the number is 1.  That means the slope is 1.  There is nothing be added or subtracted from x, so the y-intercept is 0.  Did you know that the y-intercept of this line is 0?
