Word Knowledge

The ASVAB covers both math and verbal skills.  I remind my students that no aspect should be overlooked.  For this reason, I wrote books for the 4 main parts of the exam: Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Word Knowledge, and Paragraph Comprehension.  In my book that reviews Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension, I included a set of charts for prefixes, root words, and suffixes.  I remind the students I tutor for the ASVAB of the importance of studying these charts to boost their ASVAB vocabulary skills.  One of the suffixes I have in my book is -mania or -maniac.

What does the suffix -mania or -maniac mean?

-Mania refers to a certain condition, and -maniac is one who suffers from that condition.  There are many words in the English language that include the suffix -mania or -maniac.  Some examples are bibliomania, egomaniac, hydromania, kleptomania, musomania, and pyromania.
