You may be asking which sections of the ASVAB you should focus on when taking an ASVAB prep course. As someone who tutors for the ASVAB, I would like to emphasize the importance of studying the 4 sections of the ASVAB known as the AFQT, the Armed Forces Qualification Test. The 4 sections include: Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Word Knowledge, and Paragraph Comprehension. It is critical to focus on math skills for 2 of these sections while also focusing on reading and vocabulary skills for the remaining sections. Studying these 4 sections will help to improve your ASVAB score. These 4 sections are the ones that make up the score that determines whether or not an applicant is eligible for enlistment. There are other sections on the ASVAB that help to determine job placement. The remaining areas should not be overlooked. They include: General Science, Electronics Information, Auto Shop, Mechanical Comprehension, and Assembling Objects. My ASVAB prep course focuses on the 4 main sections of the ASVAB.
