What Material Does the ASVAB Tutor Cover in Word Knowledge?

Word Knowledge is a very important part of the ASVAB exam.  Some people think if their ASVAB math scores are high that they do not need to be concerned with their score on Word Knowledge.  When people say this to me, I tell them the story of one of my students who was enrolled in an engineering program.  He receive a  perfect score in both math sections (which is very rare to see) and still was unable to pass the ASVAB because of a very low score in Word Knowledge  He had recently moved to the United States, and English was his second language.  With some review, he was able to improve his score dramatically and enlist in the U.S. military.  However, his story should help people to realize that every section is important and affects the overall score.  People need to remember that ASVAB math help is not the only help that can greatly impact your score.  Improving your vocabulary is critical as well.

When searching through the internet for ASVAB tutors, make sure you see what topics they cover in their ASVAB prep classes.  You may ask what I cover in Word Knowledge in my ASVAB prep course.  I analyzed many ASVAB study guides out there.  I made an alphabetical list of all the words in all the study guides.  I tallied up how many times each of the words appeared in 7 different ASVAB guides I selected. When I found words that occurred multiple times, I decided to include them in my book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Word Knowledge Study Guide.  My book is available on Amazon,  and the link is found in my website.  I found an app that made my cat talk to make the words come to life.  Stay tuned for more cat videos in the blog in days to come!
