Veterans’ Day
November 11
Today is a federal holiday that I need to recognize as an ASVAB tutor. I enjoy honoring the different military holidays in my blog posts. Today, November 11, is Veteran’s Day. Veteran’s Day began as Armistice Day on November 11, 1919. This date was the first anniversary of the end of World War I. In 1926, Congress passed a resolution to make this an annual observance. It became a national holiday in 1938. This day honors all veterans living or deceased. Veteran’s Day occurs on November 11 each year in the United States in honor of the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918 that ended World War I. President Dwight D. Eisenhower changed the holiday’s name from Armistice Day to Veteran’s Day in 1954. Every Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day, Arlington National Cemetery holds an annual memorial service. This cemetery is located in Arlington, Virginia and has the graves of over 400,000 people, most of whom served in the United States military.
Be sure to thank a veteran today for their service.
