About 60% of the English Language comes from Latin or Greek roots.
The English language is considered a West Germanic language. It is said to have its origin in the mid 5th to 7th centuries AD. It was brought to Britain by Anglo-Saxon migrants from what is now Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands. It is interesting to see how languages evolve over the years and to learn of the influence of other languages on our language. As an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of reviewing root words, prefixes, and suffixes. Word Knowledge is an importance part of the ASVAB. The English language has so many words. Even though it is important to study vocabulary words for the exam, you also need to review prefixes, root words, and suffixes to have a better grasp on vocabulary.
