Too often in life, people look at the success of others with envy. People assume others were lucky to find their success. Success has nothing to do with luck. Success comes from hard work and sacrifice. In life, we must be willing to make short term sacrifices in order to achieve long term gain. In working as an ASVAB tutor, I meet many students who envy others who achieved their desired score on the ASVAB. There is no need to envy others. The need lies in stirring up one’s own internal motivation, discipline, and drive to succeed. There is no need to compare to others. I remind my students that they need to compare themselves to where they were yesterday. In life, we are our own competition.
