In working toward their goals, too many people expect overnight results. When success isn’t achieved overnight, some people give up. Overnight success is not something to expect in life. It is the little progress that adds up. Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare. The hare was so overly confident in winning the race because hares are so fast, and tortoises are so slow. The hare was arrogant, and he took a nap instead of remaining consistent. The tortoise moved slowly but steadily. He kept making progress. He did not stop. He persisted. In the end, he won. In life, there is no room for arrogance. As an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of making consistent progress. I tell them not to expect overnight success and to work toward their goals each day. I remind them to be proud of each step they take toward their goal. Be steady, be consistent, and cross that finish line.
