What does the suffix -ist mean?
In working as an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of studying prefixes, root word, and suffixes. In my book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension Study Guide, I present charts of many common prefixes, root words, and suffixes. One of the common suffixes is -ist. There are many words with the suffix -ist. Here are some examples: artist. scientist, botanist, horticulturalist, florist, and chemist. Do you know what the suffix -ist means?
