What does the root word dem- mean?

In working as an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of reviewing Latin and Greek prefixes, root words, and suffixes.  The root word dem- is one of the root words I included in the root word charts in my book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension Study Guide.  Some examples of words that have the root word dem- are democracy, demagogue, demographics, epidemic, pandemic and endemic.  Do you know what dem- means?  I will present the answer and explanation tomorrow.
