As an ASVAB tutor, I take time in my ASVAB prep course to review patterns and sequences. This topic is one of the many topics that I cover in my review of Arithmetic Reasoning. I remind my students to look at each number in the pattern and see what the relationship is from one number to the next. I remind them that if the numbers are going up, the patter is either addition or multiplication. If the numbers go up quickly, it is probably multiplication. I tell them that if the numbers are going down, it is either subtraction or division. If the numbers go down quickly, it is probably division. Sometimes the pattern includes fractions. Sometimes the pattern goes up and down. Sometimes the pattern includes positive and negative numbers. I remind my students of the importance of mastering working with positive and negative number to master the topic of patterns and sequences.
Today I present an Arithmetic Reasoning question on patterns and sequences.
The question is:
What number comes next in the pattern:
8, -2, 3, -7, -2, _____
A. -12
B. -8
C. 8
D. 12
Do you know what number comes next in this sequence? I will present the answer and explanation tomorrow.
