Mark Twain was a famous American author of the 19th century. His real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens. He was also a humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer. Twain came up with many inspiring quotes over the years. In today’s quote, he reminds us to stay away from those who try to discourage us. He reminds us that small minds discourage us while great minds encourage greatness in others. In life, we need to pay attention to the people that we are surrounded by. In working as an ASVAB tutor, I notice that when my students have friends who have a plan for their lives, that they are motivated as well. Some students talk of friends who have no sense of direction, and it affects their sense of direction in life. As the expression goes, show me your friends and I will show you who you are. Be aware of who your surround yourself with for the implications are longer lasting than you realize.
