Yesterday I presented a question about the prefix meta-. Do you know what the prefix meta- means? Meta- means beyond. There are a number of words that include the prefix meta-. Examples are metaphysics, metamorphic, metastasize, and metamorphosis. As an ASVAB tutor, I explain to my students that knowing one prefix could help someone to understand up to 15 or 20 new words. My ASVAB vocabulary study guide consists of charts of prefixes, root words and suffixes. The charts present the meaning and an example for each one. Knowledge of common prefixes, root words, and suffixes plays an important role in developing your vocabulary skills.
