Word Knowledge

Yesterday I presented a question about Greek and Latin word roots.  The question asked you to find the Greek prefix that means the same thing as the Latin prefix uni-.

These are the choices:

  1. mono-
  2. di-
  3. tri-
  4. quad-

The Latin prefix uni- means one.  The Greek equivalent of the Latin prefix uni- is mono-.

There are a number of words with the Greek root mono including: monotone, monotonous, monochrome, and monorail.  Did you know that mono- was the Greek equivalent of the Latin prefix uni-?
