Yesterday I presented a question on key words for cause-and-effect questions on the Paragraph Comprehension section of the ASVAB.

In working as an ASVAB tutor, I present my students with tips on answering reading comprehension questions. Knowing how to quickly find the answers to the questions will help boost the score on the Paragraph Comprehension section of the ASVAB. My book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension Study Guide, presents tips on answering the different types of questions on the Paragraph Comprehension section of the ASVAB. In answering cause and effect questions, it is important to know cause and effect clue words. The question asks which is not a cause-and-effect word. Choice A, “as a consequence” is a cause-and-effect term. Choice B “as a result” is a cause-and-effect term. Choice D “because” is a cause-and-effect term. The correct answer is Choice C. The word “eventually” is not a cause-and-effect term. Instead, it is a sequence word.
