Volume

Yesterday I presented a question on the volume of a rectangular box.

If the volume of a rectangular box is 120, the length is 8, the width is 5, what is the height?

In working as an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of knowing the necessary formulas for the Mathematics Knowledge section of the ASVAB.  To answer this question, it is essential to know the formula for the volume of a rectangular box.

It is a simple formula.  Once you know the formula, it is an easy example to solve.
The volume of a rectangular box is V = L x W x H

Volume = length x width x height

In this case, the volume is 120

The length is 8

The width is 5.

The height is missing

V = L x W X H

120 = 8 x 5 x h

120 = 40h

Divide by 40 to solve for x.

120 divided by 40 is 3.

The height is 3.

Did you know the formula for the volume of a rectangular box?
