Yesterday I presented a question on root words.
What does the root word therm- mean?
As an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of studying prefixes, root words and suffixes. Yesterday I presented this question asking the meaning of the root word therm-. Therm- is one of the root words that I included for review in my book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension Study Guide. The root word therm- means heat.
There are many English words with the root word therm-.
Examples include thermal, thermometer, hypothermia, hyperthermia, thermos, thermostat
The meanings are listed here:
Thermal means having to with or caused by heat.
Thermometer means an instrument for measuring and indicating temperature.
Hypothermia means an abnormally low body temperature.
Hyperthermia means an abnormally high body temperature.
Thermos means a container that keeps a drink or other fluid hot or cold through a double wall.
Thermostat means a device that regulates temperature
