Yesterday I presented a question about a common root word.
What does the root word tele- mean?
As an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of studying prefixes, root words and suffixes. Yesterday I presented this question asking the meaning of the root word tele-. Tele- is one of the root words that I included for review in my book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension Study Guide. The root word tele- means at a distance or far away.
There are many English words with the root word tele-.
Examples include telephone, television, telepathy, telegraph, teleconference, and telekinesis.

Television means a system for transmitting visual images and sounds that are reproduced on screens to broadcast programs for entertainment, information, and education.
Telephone means a system for transmitting voices over a distance.
Telepathy means the communication of thoughts or ideas by means other than the known senses.
Telegraph means a system for transmitting messages from a distance along a wire.
Teleconference means a conference with participants in different locations linked by telecommunication devices.
Telekinesis means the ability to move objects at a distance by mental power or other nonphysical means.
