Arithmetic Reasoning

Decimals and Fractions

Yesterday I presented a question about changing a decimal to a fraction.

What is the most reduced form of .35 when written as a fraction?

  1. 35/100
  2. 7/20
  3. 35/10
  4. 3 5/10

In my book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Arithmetic Reasoning Study Guide, I present 15 subtopics for review.  One of the subtopics is the conversion of decimals, fractions and percents.  Knowing how to convert between decimals, fractions, and percents is an important skill.  Some problems are easier to solve as decimals, and some are easier to solve as percents. It is helpful to be able to make these conversions.

To change .35 to a fraction, put 35/100.

Then reduce by dividing the top and bottom by 5

35/100 reduces to 7/20
