Fractions

Yesterday I presented a question on converting a mixed number to an improper fraction.

Change the mixed number to an improper fraction.

3 6/7

As an ASVAB tutor, I place a strong emphasis on the review of fractions in preparation for the Arithmetic Reasoning section of the ASVAB.  Fractions is one of the 15 subtopics that I review in my classes that cover Arithmetic Reasoning.  Many people do not like to work with fractions, but I remind them of the importance of knowing fractions for this exam.

Today’s question requires the conversion of a mixed number into an improper fraction.

This is an important skill to have in working with fractions.  This skill is an important skill when multiplying and dividing mixed numbers.

To change a mixed number into an improper fraction, multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numerator.

Keep the same denominator.

3  6/7

7 x 3 = 21 + 6 = 27

3 6/7 = 27/7

Did you know how to convert a mixed number into an improper fraction?
