Paragraph Comprehension

Yesterday I presented a question on author’s purpose.

Do you know the author’s purpose in writing a novel?

Author’s purpose is one of the types of questions that can appear on the Paragraph Comprehension section of the ASVAB.  As an ASVAB tutor, I see the importance of teaching my students about the different types of questions that can appear on the Paragraph Comprehension section of the ASVAB.  I wrote a book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension Study Guide to review vocabulary and reading comprehension skills.  The author’s purpose in writing a novel is to entertain the reader.  The purpose is not to inform the reader since informational text is factual and a novel is fiction.  The purpose is not to persuade the reader since a novel is not meant to convince the reader of anything.  Did you know that a novel is written to entertain the reader?
