Mathematics Knowledge
Yesterday I presented an area question on parallelograms.
What is the measure of the base of a parallelogram is the area is 30 and the height is 3?
In working as an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of knowing the necessary formulas for the Mathematics Knowledge section of the ASVAB. To answer this question, it is essential to know the formula for the area of a parallelogram.
It is a simple formula. Once you know the formula, it is an easy example to solve.
The area of a parallelogram is A = bh
Area = base x height
In this case, the area is 30 and the height is 3.
The base is what is unknown.
A = bh
30 = b x 3
30 = 3b
Divide by 3 to figure out the base.
30 divided by 3 = 10
