Yesterday I presented a quote on percentages. What percent of 80 is 60?

In my ASVAB prep course, I present a review of percentages.  In order to solve today’s problem, I set up a proportion.  I use this format:

Is/of = %/100

What percent of 80 is 60?

80 is the “of”

60 is the “is”

The percent is missing.

60/80 = x/100

Cross multiply and solve for x.

6000 = 80x

Reduce to:

600 = 8x

Divide by 8.

75% = x
