Paragraph Comprehension
In working as an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of learning reading strategies to boost their scores on the Paragraph Comprehension sections of the ASVAB. My book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension Study Guide, presents tips on how to answer the various types of questions that appear on this section of the ASVAB. Yesterday I presented a question about strategies that help with understanding vocabulary in a passage. Do you know which strategy does not help with vocabulary: prefixes, root words, context clues or sequence words? Prefixes, root words, and context clues help with the understanding of vocabulary. The one that does not help with the understanding of vocabulary is sequence words.
