Paragraph Comprehension Section Review

Yesterday I presented a question on Paragraph Comprehension.  The question asked which of the questions was a main idea question of the following questions.

  1. What happened first in the story?
  2. What is a good title for the story?
  3. Where did the story take place?
  4. What does the word “countenance” mean?

In my role as an ASVAB tutor, I discuss the different types of questions that appear on the Paragraph Comprehension section of the ASVAB.  There are many types that can appear: main idea, detail, sequence, cause and effect, author’s purpose, author’s tone, etc.  Main idea questions ask about the central theme of the story.  Do you know which question is a main idea?  Choice B is the answer.  The question: What is a good title for the story? is a main idea question.  Many people do not realize that asking about a good title for a story is a main idea question.  Did you know the answer to this question?
