Author’s Purpose

Yesterday I presented a question about author’s purpose.

What is the author’s purpose in writing poetry?

Author’s purpose is the reason the author wrote the piece.  As an ASVAB tutor, I see the importance of reviewing the types of questions that appear on the Paragraph Comprehension section of the ASVAB.  Author’s purpose is one of the types of questions that can appear on the ASVAB.  Some of the most common examples of author’s purpose are to inform, to entertain, to persuade.  The author’s purpose is writing poetry is usually to entertain the reader.  Did you know that the author’s purpose in writing poetry is to entertain?
