Yesterday I presented the question, “What is the author’s purpose in writing a poem about the sunset?” This is one of the types of questions I present in my ASVAB prep course. As an ASVAB tutor, I see the value in explaining the types of questions to my students. I focus most heavily on providing help to my students’ ASVAB math and vocabulary scores. My primary focus is given to Arithmetic Reasoning and Mathematics Knowledge and then Word Knowledge. Paragraph Comprehension is the last topic I focus on. Do you know the author’s purpose in writing a poem about the sunset? Poetry is written to entertain. The main purpose in writing a poem about the sunset is to entertain.
