I have worked as an ASVAB tutor for about 10 years.  In working as an ASVAB tutor, I have learned that it is in giving that we receive.  On the surface, you would think that tutors provide a service to their students.  People think tutors give instruction, and the students receive the lessons.  People do not think of what ASVAB tutors receive from their students.  In teaching my ASVAB prep courses, I have learned so much from the people I have taught.  I provide ASVAB math and English help while my students provide inspiration.  When I think of every student I met, their story has been an inspiration.  Whatever the reason they chose to join the military, it was an inspiring one.  Some joined to follow in the footsteps of their family’s generations of military service.  Some joined with the pure desire to serve our nation.  Some joined to work on their college degree.  Some joined to earn a  trade.  Some joined to quicken the process of becoming an American citizen.  I have seen the struggles these young people have overcome.  I have seen them work to get in the best physical shape of their lives.  I have seen them work on developing their arithmetic, math, vocabulary, and reading skills.  I have seen their unstoppable motivation.  I have seen them overcoming hurdles time and time again.  I provide instruction for the exam, while my students remind me of the importance of being an overcomer in life. Most importantly, I have learned that it is in giving that we receive.
