Here is the solution to yesterday’s Arithmetic Reasoning problem.  This is a typical type of question that I would use in my ASVAB prep course to help develop the necessary skills in ASVAB math.  This example involves using a proportion to solve the problem.  As someone who tutors for the ASVAB, I see the ability to use proportions as a priceless math skill.  In this case, the worker uses $5 for every $100.  To figure out how much the worker will spend on clothes if he earns $4000 in wages, the best way to solve it is to set up a proportion.

The proportion would be set up like this:

5/100 = x/4000

Cross multiply and solve for x.

20000 = 100x

200 = x

The worker would spend $200 if his salary was $4000.
