Who remembers PEMDAS?  Do you remember learning it as “Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally?”  I don’t know who Aunt Sally was or what she needed to be excused for, but it seems like that was a helpful way to remember the steps in order of operations.  This is an important part of the Mathematics Knowledge section of the ASVAB.  Anyone who tutors for the ASVAB sees the significance in reviewing order of operations in an ASVAB prep course.  In receiving math help for the ASVAB, it is critical to cover this topic.

The proper order of operations is:

Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication or Division whichever comes first, and Addition or Subtraction whichever comes first.

Now can you solve this problem?

Tomorrow I will post a  video explanation!

Enjoy!
