Paragraph Comprehension
Today’s question is about author’s purpose. Do you know the author’s purpose in writing a poem? Is it to inform? To entertain? To persuade? To present an argument?
In working as an ASVAB tutor, I discuss the different types of question that appear on the Paragraph Comprehension section of the ASVAB. Author’s purpose is one type of question that appears on the test. When asked an author’s purpose question, you need to think of the reason why the author wrote the piece. Think about poetry. Did the author write is to inform or present facts? Did the author write it to entertain you? Did the author write it to persuade your or make you change your mind about something? Did the author write it to present an argument? What do you think the answer is? I will present the answer tomorrow.
