Word Knowledge Question

Today I present a Word Knowledge question.  Prefixes, root words, and suffixes are one of the topics that I review in working as an ASVAB tutor.  The question is about the meaning of the suffix

-ness.  There are many words in the English language with the suffix -ness.  Examples of these words are wilderness, bumpiness, cheerfulness, happiness, listlessness, gregariousness, haughtiness, pettiness, wistfulness, etc.

The question is:

What does the suffix “ness” mean?

A. Able to

B. Without

C. Position

D. State or being

Do you know what the suffix “ness” means?

Tomorrow I will present the definitions of the above words that have the suffix “ness” and the meaning of the suffix itself.
