National Korean War Veterans’ Armistice Day, July 27

As an ASVAB tutor, I have chosen to make posts about the different military holidays, observances, and anniversaries.  Today is one of those days.  Today, July 27, is National Korean War Veterans’ Armistice Day.  On this day, the United States recognizes and pays tribute to the veterans of the Korean War.  The Korean War started on June 25, 1950.   The North Korean army invaded South Korea.  North Korea was supported by China and the Soviet Union.  South Korea was supported by the United States and allied countries.  As a result of the war, North Koreas gain the city of Kaesong but lost 3,900 km2 (1,506 sq mi) including the city of Sokcho, to South Korea.  The war officially ended on July 27, 1953.  This was the day that the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed.
