On this Motivational Monday, I would like to share the story of Les Brown, one of the greatest motivational speakers in the world.  I see the importance of hearing stories of inspirational people.  As one who tutors for the ASVAB, I see the importance of providing motivation to the students in my ASVAB prep course.  Succeeding in passing the ASVAB involve a lot more than help with ASVAB math or vocabulary.  People need to have a motivational mindset to succeed in the military.  They need to believe in their potential to overcome trials and tribulations.  Les Brown, a  truly powerful motivational speaker came from humble beginnings.  Les (Leslie) and his twin brother Wesley were given up by their mother shortly after their birth. They were adopted by a single woman, Mamie Brown, who was a cafeteria worker and a  housekeeper.  When he was in elementary school, he was labeled as mentally retarded, a  term he believed until a teacher told him to never let another person’s opinion determine your destiny.  This teacher changed the course of his life.  Les Brown began to believe in himself and has spent his career motivating others.  Check out his speeches.  His words are captivating and his enthusiasm bubbles over.  I admire someone like Les Brown who has overcome so much in life  and has used his hardships to inspire others.  People like him inspire me to strive to inspire others.
