Mathematics Knowledge
One of the subtopics I cover in my review of Mathematics Knowledge is angles and slope. As an ASVAB tutor, I see the importance of reviewing the different types of angles, the formula for slope, and the slope-intercept form of a line.
Yesterday I presented a Mathematics Knowledge question on the y-intercept of a line.
The question is:
What is the y-intercept of the line y = x?
- 0
- 1
- -1
- There is no y-intercept.
The y-intercept of the line y = x can be determined by looking at this equation.
y = x is written in the slope-intercept form.
The slope-intercept form of a line is y = mx + b
The value of m is the slope of a line.
The value of b is the y-intercept.
In this example y = x, the value of m is 1 and the value of b is 0.
The slope is 1. The y-intercept is 0.
The correct answer is Choice A. 0.
