Mathematics Knowledge Answer
To prepare my students for the Mathematics Knowledge section of the ASVAB, I wrote a book called, The ASVAB Tutor’s Mathematics Knowledge Study Guide.
Yesterday I presented a question on Mathematics Knowledge.
The question is about finding the y-intercept of a line.
The question is:
What is the y-intercept of the line, y = 2x + 4
- 2
- -2
- 4
- -4
The y-intercept of the line y = 2x + 4 can be determined by looking at this equation.
y = 2x + 4 is written in the slope-intercept form.
The slope-intercept form of a line is y = mx + b
The value of m is the slope of a line.
The value of b is the y-intercept.
In this example y = 2x + 4, the value of m is 2 and the value of b is 4.
The slope is 2. The y-intercept is 4.
The correct answer is Choice C. 4.
