Mathematics Knowledge Question

In my role as an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of being familiar with geometry for the Mathematics Knowledge section of the ASVAB.  In my book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Mathematics Knowledge Study Guide, I review a number of geometry topics triangles, angles, slope, area, circumference, perimeter, surface area, volume.  There are a number of formulas that that the students need to memorize.  The ASVAB does not provide any formula sheet with the list of formulas for the exam.

Today I present a Mathematics Knowledge question. The question is about the volume of a sphere.

The question is:

If the radius of a sphere is 1, what is the volume?

  1. 14
  2. 1762
  3. 28
  4. 56

Do you know the formula for the volume of a sphere?  Knowing the formula is essential in being to able to answer this question.  I will present the formula, the answer, and the explanation tomorrow.
