Mathematics Knowledge Answer

Geometry is one of the main components of the Mathematics Knowledge section of the ASVAB.  In working as an ASVAB tutor, I focus on reviewing the different shapes that can appear on the ASVAB.  One of these shapes is a triangle.

Yesterday I presented a Mathematics Knowledge question.

The question is a geometry question, and it is about triangles.

The question is:

What is a triangle called that has one angle that is greater than 90 degrees?

A . Equilateral

B. Acute

C. Right

D. Obtuse

Do you know what the name of an angle that is greater than 90 degrees?

Do you know what a triangle is called when one of its angles is greater than 90 degrees.

The answer is obtuse.  An obtuse angle is greater than 90 degrees and less than 180 degrees.

The correct answer is Choice D. Obtuse.

I will explain the other choices.

Equilateral triangle has 3 equal sides and 3 equal angles.  Each angle in an equilateral triangle is 60 degrees.

An acute triangle is a triangle where each angle is less than 90 degrees.

A right triangle is a triangle that has one 90-degree angle.

An obtuse triangle is a triangle with one angle that is bigger than 90 degrees.
