Mathematics Knowledge Answer

In working as an ASVAB tutor, I remind my students of the importance of learning the necessary formulas and conversions for the Arithmetic Reasoning and Mathematics Knowledge sections.  The geometry questions on the Mathematics Knowledge section require memorization of the formulas for area, surface area, and volume.

Yesterday I presented a Mathematics Knowledge question.

This question is a geometry question about the area of a triangle.

The question is:

What is the area of a triangle with a base of 6 and a height of 8?

  1. 12
  2. 14
  3. 24
  4. 48

Do you know the formula for the area of a triangle?

The formula for the area of a triangle is A = ½ x base x height

In this question, the base is 6 and the height is 8.

A = ½ x base x height

A = ½ x 6 x 8

First you multiply ½ x 6

1/2 x 6/1 =6/2 = 3

A = 3 x 8

A = 24

The answer is Choice C. 24.
