Military Spouse Appreciation Day, May 10
In working as an ASVAB tutor, I make sure to recognize the various military holidays, observances, and anniversaries in my blog. Ones of these holidays is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Today, May 10, is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. This holiday is celebrated every year on the Friday in May before Mother’s Day. The reason for this choice of dates is because 92% of military spouses are female. This special day was first recognized by President Ronald Reagan in 1984. On this day the Defense Department recognizes the contributions and support of America’s almost 1 million military spouses. Military spouses play an important role of supporting the home front when the service member is deployed. Military spouses also play an important role in providing moral and emotional support to America’s military men and women.
