May is National Military Appreciation Month
In my role as ASVAB tutor, I see the value in recognizing military holidays, observances, and anniversaries. May is National Military Appreciation Month. May was first recognized as Military Appreciation Month by a resolution in the United States Senate in 1999. The entire month of May pays tribute to America’s military. This patriotic month honors our military heroes. The month of May includes a number of military holidays and observances. It includes Memorial Day, a day where we honor men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in serving our nation. Military Spouse Appreciation Day is celebrated on the Friday before Mother’s Day, and on this day, we honor the spouses of military members for their dedication and sacrifice. Armed Forces Day is celebrated the third Saturday in May to honor the various branches of the military. To honor our veterans during Military Appreciation Month, some people choose to honor local veterans in a newsletter or bulletin at a workplace, church or school. Some businesses offer special military discounts during this month to say thank you. Some people send cards or greetings to show their appreciation of our military men and women.
