Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday

As an ASVAB tutor, I see the importance of remembering important holidays in America.

Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.  I presented one of his quotes today.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister and activist and a leading civil rights leader in the 1950s and 1960s.  He led the movement to end segregation and fight prejudice.  Dr. King played a key role in passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.  He was a true hero of his time.  However, his life ended tragically on April 4, 1968, when he was assassinated.  His killed was James Earl Ray, a 40-year-old escaped fugitive.  Dr. King’s name and achievements for equal rights live on.
