The motto is “Real heroes don’t wear capes, they wear dog tags.” Here is an example of this motto brought to life. Sgt. Santana, a U.S. Marine on Long Island was on his way to work when he came to the rescue of a woman. An elderly woman had fallen in the roadway, and Sgt. Santana put the life saving skills he learned in the Marines to good use. He performed CPR on the woman. She was later sent to the hospital where she made a full recovery. Sgt. Santana’s story made it to the local papers. He also received a proclamation from Riverhead Town Board for his “heroism and bravery”. He has also been rewarded a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal from the Department of the Navy for his heroic deeds that day. President Ronald Reagan had a famous quote, “Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don’t have that problem.” Sgt. Santana’s story is a perfect example.
If you have thought about joining the military, what is holding you back? If physical fitness is the challenge, contact your local recruiting office. If the ASVAB is your challenge, contact me. As someone who tutors for the ASVAB, I see how this exam can be difficult for some to overcome. Many are in need of help with the math sections of the ASVAB while others need help with the reading and vocabulary sections of the ASVAB. My ASVAB prep course thoroughly prepares students for the exam which helps with enlistment as well as increasing job options when joining. Why not take one step closer to becoming a real life American hero?
