Latin Root Word “Mal” Explained

In my ASVAB prep course, I remind my students of the importance of studying Latin and Greek roots.

The Latin root “mal” means bad.  As an ASVAB tutor, I remind students that knowing even one root could open one’s eyes to several words.  In addition to working to help students with their ASVAB math scores, I work to improve their ASVAB word knowledge scores through the review of vocabulary words, prefixes, roots, and suffixes.

Knowing the root “mal” helps someone to know a  number of words including: malicious, malignant, malevolent, malcontent, malfeasance, malediction, malign, malady,  and maladjusted.  Even if you do not know the word, you would know that a word with the root “mal” means something bad.
