July 4th, Independence Day

As an ASVAB tutor, I have decided to present numerous military holidays, observances, and anniversaries in my blog.  Today is July 4, Independence Day.  This is the day when America celebrated independence from Great Britain.  It is a federal holiday in the United States.  On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence, was ratified by the Second Continental Congress. This was the establishment of the United States of America.  On this date, the Founding Fathers declared that the thirteen colonies were no longer under the rule of the British king, King George III.

Each year many people in the United States celebrate Independence Day by watching firework shows or attending parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, concerts, and ceremonies.  The legal holiday is held on July 4. If the holiday falls on a Saturday, the federal employees take off on Friday.  If the holiday falls on a Sunday, the federal employees take off on a Monday.  Over 200 years later, the celebrations continue across America on this day.
