As someone who tutors for the ASVAB, it might seem like my entire focus would be on helping people with the exam content. People would think my primary goal is to teach my ASVAB prep course, to provide ASVAB arithmetic and math help, to improve vocabulary and paragraph comprehension skills. These are very important goals for me. As important as focusing on the exam is my goal of providing inspiration to military hopefuls. I meet many people who have become discouraged by previous failures on the exam. I meet people who are working on improving their English skills since English was not their first language. I meet people who developed math phobias over the years. I meet people who have forms of test taking anxiety. If I provide the skills for the test without the empathy and inspiration they need, I am only doing half of the job. I live to inspire others with stories of former students who overcame their challenges. At times, I pair up students with opposite skills to study together so they can help motivate and encourage each other. I send positive messages and motivational quotes to those who need them. I want people to realize that anything worth having does not come easy and their motivation makes all the difference.
