Author’s Tone
In working as an ASVAB tutor, I make sure to discuss author’s tone when reviewing for the Paragraph Comprehension section of the ASVAB.
Yesterday I presented a question on author’s tone.
An author writes a scientific piece about the life of a lion. What would the author’s tone most likely be?
- Funny
- Sarcastic
- Factual
- Angry
Author’s tone is the authors attitude or viewpoint when writing a piece. The author’s tone is not directly stated in a piece. You need to read between the lines to figure out the author’s tone. Author’s tone can be positive, negative or neutral in a piece. In writing about a lion, the author’s tone would be neutral and it would be factual. The correct answer is choice C. factual.
