Author’s Purpose
In my book, The ASVAB Tutor’s Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension, I review the two verbal sections of the ASVAB. The Word Knowledge section assesses vocabulary skills. The Paragraph Comprehension assesses reading comprehensions skills. There are a variety of types of paragraph comprehension questions.
Today I present a Paragraph Comprehension question.
The topic is author’s purpose.
The question is:
What is the author’s purpose in writing a piece about the history of the Civil War?
A. To inform
B. To entertain
C. To persuade
D. To contradict
Why would an author write a piece about the history of the Civil War. The reason for writing the piece is the author’s purpose. What do you think the answer is?
