Author’s Purpose
As an ASVAB tutor, I take time to review the types of questions in the Paragraph Comprehension section of the test in my ASVAB prep course. Yesterday I posted this question. Did you know the answer? There are 3 main types of author’s purpose: to inform, to entertain, and to persuade. An advertisement for a car is written with the purpose of persuading the reader. The goal is to persuade the reader to want to buy the car. Advertisement’s purpose is to influence the reader’s decision making. In my ASVAB classes, I spend the most time teaching content for the 2 math sections, but providing so much ASVAB math help does not mean that the Verbal sections should be overlooked. The 4 main sections that need to be reviewed are: Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Word Knowledge, and Paragraph Comprehension.
