As someone who tutors for the ASVAB, I understand the importance of focusing on the Paragraph Comprehension section in addition to the emphasis I place on ASVAB math and vocabulary help. Author’s purpose is the reason the author wrote the piece. In my ASVAB prep course, I remind my students of the different reasons an author might write a piece. The word “pie” can help you to remember the most common types of author’s purpose. Tomorrow I will explain how “pie” helps you to remember this.
